Recruitment Process
At SMS we recruit the way we do business – we don’t use exhaustive, impersonal psychometric testing and panel style interviews but a one-on-one approach that gives as an insight into the person that you are – and gives you a greater understanding of the work we undertake and the culture that defines who we are. We believe that recruitment is a two way process and is as much about you choosing us as it is about us choosing you.
The stages of our recruitment process are as follows:
- You submit an application addressing key selection criteria by the application close date
- We notify all candidates as to the status of their application within five days of the application close date, if not earlier
- Those selected to continue will be asked to attend an interview with a member of the recruitment team, followed by an interview with an SMS consultant, complete a logical reasoning assessment and meet with one of SMS’ National Practice Directors. These stages will be held over a number of days and each of these activities will be fully explained to you on reaching each stage.
Preparation
We encourage you to review our website and familiarise yourself with SMS, who we are and the practice for which you are being considered. It is also important that you have reviewed your application and CV and come prepared to talk about your experiences, especially those which best illustrate your strengths.
It is important that you be yourself and to demonstrate to your interviewer why you’re excited about the opportunity to work for SMS. We will be looking for professionalism in your attire, communication skills and overall presentation.
What you can expect
Your development will start on day one, where you will participate in our week long graduate specific induction and training program and then our week long firm wide National induction to give you an overview of the firm and an outline of what you can expect from SMS.
As a Graduate you're not expected to know your job inside-out on your first day. In your first week you will be allocated a Practice Leader or a site leader who will act as your mentor throughout your time at SMS.
The focus of your initial training will be around developing general consulting skills and competencies that will supplement on-the-job learning. We want to get you out on a client project as quickly as possible so that you can learn from practical experience and from our highly experienced team.
We support professional and personal development through a range of learning options throughout every stage of your development. We have tailored career frameworks that will ensure that SMS provides you with the support required to achieve your professional goals. SMS will equip you with the formal, technical and soft skills required to be a successful consultant, but it is the focused on-the-job learning and exposure to a variety of industries and clients that will take your career to the next level.
